THE MEDITERRANNEAN IS MORE THAN GEOGRAPHY

CARTE BLANCHE GIVEN TO JEAN-FRANÇOIS CHOUGNET FOR EXCEPTIONALLY UNITING THE COLLECTIONS OF SOCIETE GENERALE AND ITS SUBSIDIARY SOCIETE GENERALE MAROC.

Societe Generale became a partner of the Marseille-Provence 2013 event in a rather original way, by charging Jean-François Chougnet, Managing Director of MP 2013, with the creation of an exhibition on the theme of “the Mediterraneans”. For the first time, a dialogue between two collections was the basis for the installation: a dialogue between Societe Generale’s contemporary art Collection and the collection of contemporary art from its subsidiary SG Maroc, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. The exhibition is built around two journeys addressing the question of masculine and feminine, and particularly showcases the vision of female Moroccan artists, with emblematic works from figures such as Lalla Essaydi, Nadja Mehadji and Lamia Naji.

The exhibition is divided into two sub-themes to address firstly the relationships between identities, genders, materials and techniques, and secondly the questions of distances, connections and confrontations between genders.
