RADEK SZLAGA

Date : 2014

Medium : Painting

Size : 153 x 140 cm

Radek Szlaga accumulates layers of paint and references (to Wilhelm Sasnal in particular in the work Africa), cuts his canvases up and sews them back together again, and invites us to reflect on our relationship with Africa and its transformations. Here, Africa is mixed up with Europe, or vice versa (map of Poland in the top-left) and this canvas entitled “Africa” tells us the story of Africa, but more than that, it tells our story, that of its future. Radek Szlaga is a story-teller. His pictorial approach incorporates the contemporary process of representing the visible and develops an examination of wealth distribution and the world’s development.
